The Long Island Children's Museum presents
Night Journeys" An Adventure in the World of Sleep and Dreams, an exhibit that leads families through the fascinating world of bedtime rituals, sleep and dreams around the world. The exhibit will be on view at the museum through September 12, 2010.
Visitors will be introduced to the sleeping places from various parts of the world including an ancient Egyptian bed. Kids can try out a headrest from Japan or Somalia, peek into other unusual sleeping places, and learn from an animated video about eye movements, body movements and brain activity during sleep, and much more. The exhibit is intended for all ages and is included in museum admission.
LICM is a participant in the national Blue Star Museums program which provides free admission to active duty military and their immediate family members (military ID holder and five immediate family members). The program, which includes active duty Reserve and active duty National Guard, runs through Labor Day.
The Long Island Children's Museum is located at 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City, NY. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Museum admission: $10 for adults and children over 1 year old, $9 seniors, free to museum members and children under 1 year old. Additional fees for theater and special programs may apply. Philippe Cousteau, grandson of the legendary
Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau, at their Shark Week Live! Kick-Off Celebration on
Saturday, July 31, 2010.
- Philippe Cousteau will meet and greet aquarium visitors from 12 to 2 p.m.
- At 2 p.m., there will be a special screening of the premiere episode of Shark Week Programming in the aquarium's Riverfront Room.
- Then at 3: p.m., watch Philippe Cousteau experience the aquarium's one-of-a-kind Shark Dive programs with one very special winner.

The Vladimir Nielsen Piano Festival of Sag Harbor will present the first
of six concerts by its young virtuosos on
Tuesday, August 3, 2010 at 7 p.m. at Guild Hall, 158 Main Street in East Hampton, New York. The concerts are part of the festival's annual summer music education programs for young pianists
from around the world.
The entire concert series will feature these young pianists playing classical repertoire for solo piano, two pianos, four
hands and concerti with works by Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt and
Rachmaninoff among others, in varied programs each evening. T
Performers for this concert and other Summer 2010 concerts will include

On Saturday, July 31 from 7 to 10:30 p.m., the Vanderbilt Museum's lovely Spanish courtyard will be the backdrop for
Tango in the Courtyard: A Milonga --a tango performance by Nelson and Madalyn Avila's tango. Guests will be seated at tables where they can enjoy drinks and light refreshments. The Avilas will also teach audience members this sensual dance.
A milonga is an Argentine, Uruguayan or Southern Brazilian form of music that preceded the tango. The word also refers to a place or event at which the tango or milonga are danced. Tickets are $20 person; tables for six or more will be reserved. For reservations, please call (631) 854-5579. Nelson Avila starred on Broadway in Tango Argentino and Forever Tango. He dances with his wife Madalyn, a performer and and dance instructor.
