Happy Cinco de Mayo!
Today, May 5th, is known as Cinco de Mayo. Spanish for "the fifth of May," Cinco de Mayo celebrates the Mexicans' victory over occupying French forces at the Battle of Puebla, Mexico, on May 5, 1862.
This year, one surprising way to celebrate the holiday is with the newly-released Agave 99 Tequila, billed as the nation's first kosher tequila. Produced by Syosset-based Star Industries, the kosher tequila is available at many liquor stores around the Island.
For the best of two cultures, you can attend tonight's Third Annual Salsa & Schmooze, hosted by the Latino Jewish Council of Long Island, at the Holiday Inn Westbury, 260 Old Country Road, Carle Place, starting at 6 p.m.. The cost is $45 per person or $80 per couple, and it includes raffles, a buffet dinner plus your choice of one wine, beer or sangria, some free shots of Agave 99 kosher tequila, and more. Enjoy the vibrant music provided by Raffi Caballero.
For more information, call (516) 942-2651 or email The Latino Jewish Council.
