Is there someone on your holiday gift list who already has every gift you can think of? (Or are you looking for a unique gift for yourself?) Then consider giving your friend or relative the gift of a three-hour, in-home cake baking and decorating seminar (subject to availability), offered by Marneycakes. After the three hours of instructions, the recipient of your generous gift will have one finished cake that serves six, and one serving 16... freshly baked and all set for your friend to complete with his/her newly-acquired skills.
This gift comes with a great cake and buttercream icing recipe, and there will be plenty of tips and tricks to make your friend's future baking look more professional. This seminar is offered for up to six attendees and costs $550 (within a 30-minute commute of Marneycakes. For a longer commute, an additional travel fee will be calculated.) Don't worry about having all the necessary equipment, because Marneycakes will provide anything that you don't have on hand. (Grocery supplies not included, but a shopping list will be provided.)
Long Island resident Chef Marney White, called "the Vera Wang of Cakes," teaches the in-home classes. She is a recipient of a Bride's Choice Award for Martha Stewart's WeddingWire.com for 2009 and 2010, and won first place in decorated cakes at the 2010 Evening of Good Taste culinary competition. Hi,
You can see my article on Best Vegetarian Restaurants on Long Island, and if you’re going to be in the Hicksville area, there are lots of Indian restaurants, and all of them have at least some vegetarian items on the menu.
For budget hotels in Hicksville, check out kayak.com.

fyi…. in the future, a good place to ask questions like this is in the Long Island forum. You can either go to the home page at longisland.about.com and click on “My Forum” under my Guide photo on the left, or go directly to Long Island Forum.

Thanks for your great advice! I would love to be able to decorate my own cake. That would be really cool to say at the reception. I think if I were to do this I would stand out a little more. Thanks for sharing your insights!
