Next Tuesday, September 27, 2011 is the Water Quality Hearing called by Assemblyman Robert Sweeney. This is in response to the recently-released draft county report which notes a marked decline in our water quality here on Long Island. Details about the hearing follow below.
All are welcome to attend, however this is not a public hearing in the traditional sense and there will be limited opportunity for public testimony. The event has been planned by the NYS Assembly, and as such, they are managing the roster of speakers.
We are encouraging all residents and environmentalists who are concerned about Long Island's water quality to attend and lend your support to this important cause. Please reply to me and let me know if you plan to attend. Thank you!
Water Quality Hearing Tuesday, September 27, 2011- All Are Welcome to Attend
Recently, the draft Suffolk County Comprehensive Water Resources Management Plan documented a significant decline in Long Island's quality and quantity of drinking water, as well as our surface waters- bays, lakes and streams. The New York State Assembly Standing Committee on Environmental Conservation will hold a Public Hearing on this serious issue. The purpose of this hearing is to discuss management, protection and remedial strategies to combat this growing problem. Many environmental leaders feel that this issue is the greatest environmental challenge facing Long Island today.
