A reader recently asked me for information on the former Hotel Nassau, where he and his family used to vacation many years ago. I contacted Long Beach historian Douglas Sheer to ask if he knew, since I have been on his Long Beach Heritage Tour and he is a veritable encyclopedia of all things Long Beach, New York.
Mr. Sheer said: "The Hotel Nassau was the first major hotel to replace the Long Beach Hotel, which burned to the ground in 1907 and was considered the largest seaside hotel in the world at the time. The Hotel Nassau was used by the military during World War I as a hospital and also housed the first classrooms for the Long Beach Schools."
Do you remember the Hotel Nassau? If so, please leave a comment below. Thanks!
