The Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) has announced that it will be operating on a modified schedule on all branches except for the Long Beach branch today, Monday, November 5, 2012. Off-peak fares are in effect today and the onboard penalty fare will be waived. The October monthly ticket remains valid for travel through the end of the day today. LIRR officials are alerting customers to the fact that there may well be delays of 10 to 15 minutes due to the reduced train capacity in Amtrak's East River tunnels as well as heavy passenger loading throughout the system.
Note that trains on the Ronkonkoma branch will not operate EAST of Ronkonkoma. Trains on the Montauk branch will not operate EAST of Speonk. In those areas, over half of the crossing gates and signals are still without power.
