Long Island Expressway Still Closed From Exit 57 - 2/10/13

Update: as of Monday, February 11, 2013, all lanes of the Long Island Expressway are open.
As a result of the snowstorm, the Long Island Expressway (LIE) has been closed in both directions from exit 57 to exit 73 since this morning, Sunday, February 20, 2013. Although officials were hoping to reopen this stretch of the expressway by 5 p.m., those hours have been extended, and the LIE remains closed in those exits until at least 9 p.m. tonight.

Last night, the severe storm left literally hundreds of cars stranded as huge snow banks made it difficult or impossible for drivers to continue on the expressway.
