News 12 Long Island reported that a house at the corner of Perry and Cedar Streets in Hempstead, NY, exploded today, Wednesday, February 27, 2013, at around 2:20 p.m. Thankfully, no one was inside at the time, but the Daily News reported that a neighbor was unfortunately hit by debris.
Firefighters responded and searched in the rubble of the leveled home for possible victims, but apparently, there were none. A person who lives one block away told News 12 Long Island that the explosion could be felt there as well. Others who live nearby said they could smell gas before the house exploded.
