Indoor Activities for the Whole Family

What to Do When the Weather Outside is Frightful

By Dawn Rosenberg McKay, About.com

There's nothing more relaxing than spending a lazy afternoon at home when the weather is nasty ... unless you had plans to do something outdoors. Then your home becomes a prison -- a maximum security one if you have kids.

What can you do, besides wait for the weather to improve. Lots, actually. Here are some indoor activities for you and your family to enjoy.

Ice Skating Rinks

There are many ice skating rinks on Long Island. If the weather is really bad, you can go to one of the indoor skating rinks, but if it is just cold (as it should be in the winter) you can enjoy one of the outdoor rinks.

Libraries

Your local library is a great place to spend a cold or rainy day. You can travel around the world or back in time. The best thing about visiting the library? -- you can bring home a free souvenir (as long as you remember to bring it back).

Bowling

There are dozens of bowling alleys on Long Island. Many offer bumper bowling, a no gutter ball guarantee for young bowlers. You can even bowl to music during certain hours.

Movies

This isn't an inexpensive activity, but you'll probably be able to find a movie the whole family will enjoy.
