Black Men and Black Women Respecting Each Other at Nassau Community College
College Center Building, Multipurpose Room at 11:30 a.m.
Presented by Pastor Donnie McClurkin, a Christian motivational speaker who is part of the Ministries Alliance Program of Long Island.

Paul Robeson Jr. presents A Black Way Of Seeing: From 'Liberty' to Freedom at Suffolk County Community College, Grant Campus in Brentwood
Sagtikos Building, Van Nostrand Theatre at 12:30 p.m.
Paul Robeson Jr., Civil Rights activist, lecturer, author, translator, biographer, archivist, and son of the legendary Paul Robeson, will discuss his latest book.

Sunday, February 17

African American Craft Festival at Brentwood Public Library
1 to 2 p.m. Call (631) 273-7883 to register.
Children, ages five to 12, will have the opportunity to experience craft projects from African countries.

Wednesday, February 20

Slavery on Long Island at Brentwood Public Library
7 to 8:30 p.m. Call (631) 273-7883 to register.
Dr. Christopher Matthews will talk about excavating the remains of an 18th century slave quarter structure at the Joseph Lloyd Manor site in Lloyd Harbor. Joseph Lloyd Manor was the home Jupiter Hammon, a poet who was one of the first published African-Americans. His writings drew on Christian theology to challenge the injustices of slavery.

Sounds of Africa Drums and Dance at Hempstead Public Library
3 to 4 p.m. Call the Children's Room at (516) 481-6990 ext. 15 to register.
Kojo Bey and his musicians will present an interactive programe of dance, music, and drumming that is suitable for all ages.

African American Males:Why Are They Revered? at Suffolk County Community College, Grant Campus in Brentwood
Captree Commons 113 A & B at 7 p.m.
A lecture by Professor Norman Daniels examines "The Image Of Black Males in Society and Why They Are Revered ... Or Are They?"

Saturday, February 23

Gospel Jazz Concert at Hempstead Public Library

Everton Bailey presents a gospel jazz concert suitable for all ages.

Tuesday, February 26

Pine Needle Basketry Lecture at Baldwin Public Library
7 p.m. Register by calling the Adult Reference Desk at (516) 223-6228. Charles Winslow shares the story of the American pine needle artifacts that his family has created since the 1800s.

Wednesday,February 27

African Americans on Long Island at Suffolk County Community College, Grant Campus in Brentwood
Captree Commons 113 A & B at 7 p.m.
A lecture about the African American experience on Long Island.

Friday, February 29

After the Diaspora at Nassau Community College
College Center Building, Multipurpose Room at 6:25 p.m.
A three-part dramatization of the history of African Americans through music. Part One: a steel band will be followed by Nigerian and Ghanaian African dancers. Part two: Vy Higgenson's Gospel Choir, known for its live off-Broadway productions. Part three: NCC's gospel choir and a jazz group.
