Definition: Technically, the North Shore of Long Island is the area that runs alongside the Long Island Sound. The term is generally used to refer to the entire northern half of Long Island. Long Island's North Shore includes communities such as Great Neck, Port Washington, Manhasset, Roslyn, Glen Cove, Glen Head, and Brookville in Nassau County, and Huntington, Northport, Smithtown, Port Jefferson, and Shoreham in Suffolk County. Parts of the North Shore are often referred to as the Gold Coast, due to the affluence of it's residents. Also see South Shore.
Examples: The waterfront areas on Long Island's North Shore are very rocky.
