The median age of Manhasset residents is 43 years old. The median household income is $125,425. Of those 25 years old and over, many have attained a bachelor's degree (30.5 %) or a graduate degree (32.6 %).
As reported in the 2000 U.S. Census, the median value of homes in Manhasset, mostly single-unit detached houses, is $669,500. Most of these houses are older: 37.1 % were built in 1939 or earlier and 34.2 % were built between 1940 and 1959. The median rent for specified renter-occupied units is $1,148*.
There are two elementary schools (K-6) and a middle school (grades 7 and 8) and high school in the Manhasset Union Free School District. The 2869 children (as of the 2005/06 academic year)** that make up the student body live in most incorporated and unincorporated areas of Manhasset. Some children living in Flower Hill attend schools in the Port Washington or Roslyn school districts. Some children from Plandome Manor also attend Port Washington public schools.
The Manhasset Public Library recently opened a brand new facility on Onderdonk Avenue at the corner of Northern Boulevard.

Local shops, mostly of the mom and pop variety, line Plandome Road, which though not named that, is like Manhasset's Main Street. Northern Boulevard, dubbed the "Miracle Mile" is home to larger chain stores like Barnes and Noble, Staples, Linen's and Things, Bed Bath and Beyond, Daffy's, Filene's Basement and Macy's. The Americana, an upscale shopping center, is also located on Northern Boulevard. You don't have to leave town to go grocery shopping. There are small specialty food stores on Plandome Road and a King Kullen can be found on Northern Boulevard as can a Whole Foods Market.
