You don't have to go all the way into the city to enjoy world-class performances in concert venues. The island boasts wonderful performing arts centers and theaters where you can hear celebrities as well as up-and-coming musicians. Here's a sampling of these venues.
From string quartets to the the Adelphi Symphony Orchestra, jazz piano and opera, the Adelphi University Performing Arts Center offers a wide variety of entertainment. Dance and theater are also performed here.

The YMCA Boulton Center for the Performing Arts of the Great South Bay YMCA features a wide range of programs including music, dance, film and the spoken word. Constructed within a renovated movie theater from the 1920s, the Boulton Center center opened in 2003 as a 261-seat, stadium-style theater. The outdoor amphiteater seats 7,000 and even more on its sprawling lawn. Performers here have included Blondie, Steppenwolf, Led Zeppelin and Eagles tributes bands, Alice Cooper, Pat Benatar and others.

Eisenhower Park's Harry Chapin Lakeside Theatre offers free summer concerts and film screenings. The theater overlooks the park's Salisbury Lake. Programs are FREE and open to the public.

The reincarnation of the former Inter-Media Arts Center (IMAC), the Paramount opened in 2011 and can accommodate an audience of 1500. They also feature a private Founder's Room where members can interact with performers and more. The venue hosts the likes of ZZ Top, LeAnn Rimes, Elvis Costello, and many others.
