Long Island Easter Events for the Family

- Where to take the kids on Long Island this Easter 2009

Easter Sunday falls on April 12 this year, but there are also lots of events before and after that date. Here are some great places to take the kids for Easter on Long Island.

Saturday, April 4, Sunday, April 5 and Saturday, April 11

  • What: Breakfast with the Easter Bunny. Enjoy a full buffet that includes eggs, pancakes, sausage, bacon, hash browns and more. Take a complimentary picture with the Easter Bunny.
    When: 9 a.m., 10 a.m. and 11 a.m.
    Where: Brightwaters Farms & Nursery, 1624 Manatuck Boulevard, Bay Shore
    Cost: Adults: $15.99, children 2-12 $9.99, children 1 and under, free

Tuesday, April 7

  • What: Mr. Easter Bunny. Kids will enjoy the Broadhollow Theatre Company’s performance about Billy and Betty and their father, the mayor of Easterville.
    When: 1 p.m.
    Where: Broadhollow at Elmont, 700 Hempstead Turnpike, Elmont
    Cost: Tickets are $10 each

    Also on Wednesday, April 8 at 1 p.m. at Broadhollow’s Studio Theatre, 141 South Wellwood Avenue, Lindenhurst, Thursday, April 9 at 1 p.m. at Broadhollow’s BayWay Arts Centre, 265 East Main Street, East Islip, and Saturday, April 11 at 12 noon, also at Broadhollow’s BayWay Arts Centre.

  • What: The Sweetbriar Nature Center’s Spring Festival includes Easter egg hunts, face painting, wildlife programs, relay races and more. The Easter Bunny will be on hand to greet the kids.
    When: 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
    Where: Sweetbriar Nature Center, 62 Eckernkamp Drive, Smithtown
    Cost: $7 per person

Wednesday, April 8

  • What: The Adventures of Peter Rabbit. Children will love seeing the story of Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton Tail and Peter coming to life onstage.
    When: 11 a.m.
    Where: Theatre Three, 412 Main Street, Port Jefferson
    Cost: Tickets are $8

Thursday, April 9

  • What: Ukrainian Eggs. This event, suitable for all ages, will explore the techniques used in the Ukraine to craft beautifully decorated eggs. You’ll take home your own colorful wooden egg that won’t break.
    When: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m.
    Where: Long Island Children’s Museum, 11 Davis Avenue, Garden City
    Cost: Free with museum admission

Saturday, April 11

  • What: Tanger Outlet’s First Annual Easter Egg Hunt and Spring Festival
    When: 9 a.m. sharp for the egg hunt. Afterwards, until 2 p.m., the kids can enjoy facepainting, arts and crafts and more.
    Where: Tanger Outlets at The Arches, Deer Park, at the center Piazza near the fountain.
    Cost: **FREE** but you need to register at 9 a.m.

  • What: Egg-stravaganza! For children ages two-and-a-half to 10 years old with their parents. Help the staff find and collect strange eggs and take home whatever is inside.
    When: 1-2 p.m.
    Where: The Theodore Roosevelt Sanctuary and Audubon Center, 134 Cove Road, Oyster Bay
    Cost: $5.00 members/$8.00 nonmembers per child. Registration required.

  • What: Annual Easter Egg Hunt. The egg hunts will take place throughout the day, and Whiskers the bunny will greet children. Children can also go on a hayride and see farm animals.
    When: 12 noon to 4 p.m.
    Where: At the nearby Queens Farm Museum, 73-50 Little Neck Parkway, Floral Park, near the Queens/Nassau border
    Cost: $5 per person
