If an encounter with a deceased relative or other spirit frightens someone, what should they do?
Most of the people who I've interviewed who live with ghosts say they don't want them to leave. One person told me their family was moving and they were upset because they wanted to take the ghost with them.
So most of the time, it's a positive experience. But for people who've had a visitation from a loved one and can't handle it, I recommend that they say, "I know it's you, mom, and I know that you're trying to tell me that you're OK and that you're still around with me. But this is too much for me to handle emotionally. I'm not ready and it's becoming more of a scary thing for me, so please don't do it again."
And nine times out of ten, you'll be left alone after that.
Joe and I don't push anyone. We encourage people to be skeptics, and to figure out logical explanations first. And if people don't believe or it's against their religion, and they're not ready. we don't push.
