In order to vote in elections if you live in Nassau or Suffolk counties on Long Island, New York or anywhere else in the state of New York, your deadline to register to vote is 25 days before the actual elections. But what if you've moved or you have other reasons to wonder whether you're still eligible to vote?

There's a quick and easy way to find out if you're still registered to vote in the state of New York. Just go to the special New York State Voter Public Information - Voter Registration Search website which is located at https://voterlookup.elections.state.ny.us/votersearch.aspx.

Once you're on the page, you will be asked to fill in some pertinent information. You will need to type in your last name, then your first name, your date of birth (for example, 05/03/1961.) You will also need to fill in the county that you live in, and then your ZIP code. Note that all of these fields are mandatory, and you will not be able to ascertain your voter registration status until you have filled in each of these required fields.

After you've filled in all the fields that are listed on the web page, then just hit "Search."

A new page will then come up and it will give you your voter registration search results. It will list your name, residential address, your political part and most importantly, your voter status --whether it is active or inactive.

In addition, the page will list your voter district information, including the Election District that you are in, the County Legislative District, Senate District, Congressional District, Assembly District and the Town that you are registered in. There will also be a link to a page that lists your county's Board of Election contact information.

This New York State Voter Registration status page is also a good source of information if you are not sure exactly where you are supposed to vote in the upcoming elections. There will be a link to another page that will tell you where to find your polling place.

If you need more information, you can contact your county's Board of Elections. The Nassau County Board of Elections is located at 240 Old Country Road, 5th floor, in Mineola, New York. Their phone number is (516) 571-2058.

The Suffolk County Board of Elections is located at Yaphank Avenue in Yaphank, New York. Their phone number is (631) 852-4500.
