Where to Eat, Where to Stay and Where to Play in Kismet on Fire Island NY

Kismet, a Fire Island community, was long considered a party town frequented by singles. According to some reports, that has changed over recent years and more families are vacationing there. Kismet is a popular place for summer house shares. This community is located just west of the Fire Island Lighthouse. Unlike most of Fire Island, you can get to Kismet without traveling by boat. You can drive to Robert Moses State Park, park in Field 5 and walk to Kismet.

Traveling to Kismet

While you can get to Kismet by driving to Robert Moses State Park and walking, you may choose to get there by ferry, water taxi or private boat. There is a large commercial marina for those who arrive by private boat. If you want to take the Ferry or a water taxi, drive to the Bay Shore ferry terminal and park your car in the parking lot. If you don't plan to drive to the ferry, there are a variety of modes of transportation you can use.

  • From Manhattan: Take the Long Island Railroad from Penn Station, located at W. 34th Street and Seventh Avenue to Bay Shore (Bay Shore LIRR Schedule). Then take a taxi from the LIRR station to the Bay Shore ferry terminal.
  • From JFK International Airport: One option is to take a taxi from the airport to Bay Shore. You can also take the AirTrain to the LIRR Jamaica Station and get a train to Bay Shore and a taxi to the Bay Shore Ferry Terminal.
  • From LaGuardia International Airport or Macarthur Airport: Take a taxi to the Bay Shore ferry terminal.
