Fire Island Pines is an upscale, predominantly gay community, located on the east end of Fire Island. Residents and visitors take part in many fundraising and gay culture events. Fire Island Pines is well-known for the Invasion of the Pines, an annual event during which glamorous drag queens invade the Island for a day. Beach house rentals and house shares are popular among those who vacation in the Pines. Ferry service is available from Sayville but many visitors arrive by private boat.

How to Get to Fire Island Pines
To get to Fire Island Pines, you have to travel across the Great South Bay, traveling by water taxi or ferry from Bay Shore or Sayville respectively. You can drive to either ferry terminal and park your car in the parking lots. If you don't plan to drive, there are a variety of modes of transportation you can use.

  • From Manhattan: Take the Long Island Railroad from Penn Station, located at W. 34th Street and Seventh Avenue (Bay Shore LIRR Schedule and Sayville LIRR Schedule). Then take a taxi from the LIRR station to the ferry terminal.
  • From JFK International Airport: One option is to take a taxi from the airport to either Bay Shore or Sayville. You can also take the AirTrain to the LIRR Jamaica Station and get a train to Bay Shore or Sayville.
  • From LaGuardia International Airport or Macarthur Airport: Take a taxi to the Bay Shore or Sayville ferry terminal.
