With its theme of the lost continent of Atlantis, the sprawling aquarium encompasses exhibits both indoors and outdoors. There's a seal exhibit outside as well as an indoor exhibit of swiftly swimming sharks. Very courageous (or very crazy!) visitors can pay an extra fee to dive down in a cage to observe the sharks as they swim uncomfortably close to the cage.
Sea Lions and Sand Sharks:
Outdoors, there are frequently scheduled shows in the Sea Lion Coliseum. Watch as sea lions frolic and penguins perform for the audience. You and your family will also enjoy talks on the aquarium's beautiful, living coral reef or facts about piranhas ---while you watch them gobble up their food--- or smile at the antics of frisky otters as they're treated to their meals.tMeals and More:
The aquarium features the Atlantis Café with meals, snacks, beverages and desserts. After viewing the exhibits, are the kids in the mood for games? Then take them to Nemo's Family Fun Center, with games for all ages. Please note that visitors under 21 must be accompanied by an adult. You and your family can also pay extra to take a tour of the Peconic River on the Atlantis Explorer Tour Boat, just behind the aquarium.
Atlantis Marine World is also home to The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation, a marine mammal and sea turtle rescue and rehabilitation center.
