It's time to get ready for the holidays and think about where to go to combat cabin fever. From holiday concerts to visits to adorned houses and even a Dickens Festival, there's plenty to do on Long Island this month.

Ongoing Sundays

Family Sunday at the Museum. Each Sunday, the Nassau County Museum of Art offers a 1 p.m. docent-led family walk-through of the exhibition, and beginning at 1:30 p.m., supervised art activities for the whole family. Family Sunday at the Museum is free with museum admission. The Nassau County Museum of Art is located at One Museum Drive (just off Northern Boulevard, Route 25A, two traffic lights west of Glen Cove Rd.) in Roslyn Harbor. Admission to the main building PLUS the Art Space for Children is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62+) and $4 for students and children ages 4-12. These prices include admission to the MiniArtMuseum for Children.

Artists in America, featuring works by Copley, Peale, Whistler, Sargent, Hopper, O'Keeffe, Rockwell and Wyeth at the Nassau County Museum of Art, One Museum Drive (just off Northern Boulevard), Roslyn Harbor. Open 12 pm-4:30 pm Tuesday through Sunday. (Admission to main building + Art Space for Children $10/adults, $8/seniors 62+, $4/students, $4/children 4-12 years of age, museum members/free.)

6:30 to 9 p.m. First Night and Tree Lighting at Old Westbury Gardens,71 Old Westbury Road. The house will be filled with live holiday music and there will be a performance by members of the Bethel Concert Choir, a visit by Santa Claus, a tree lighting on the South Terrace at 8:15 p.m. and light refreshments. $10 per person, $5 for members and children 3 to 12 years. Members' children enter for free.

The 34th Annual Candlelight House Tour. The Three Village Historical Society presents its yearly Candlelight House Tour, a showcase of select local homes decked out in the holiday spirit by professional decorators. From 6 to 8 p.m. at the Rock Hall Museum, enjoy a festive holiday evening. In Colonial America, the New Year was celebrated with music, cider, sweets and decorations. Christmas at Hallockville. Start the holiday season at the museum farm. Featuring guided tours of decorated historic homes, costumed interpreters, antique toys, musicians, carriage rides, children's activities and Santa Claus! 12 to 3:30 p.m. Admission fee: $8/adults, children 6-12: $4, family pass (2 adults and 2 children):$18. Opera et Al presents Here We Come A-Caroling, a live performance of solos by local singers, plus an audience sing-along of carols with sheet music provided, as well as favors and refreshments. Bring the kids to Hicks Nurseries, 100 Jericho Turnpike, Westbury, where Santa will be at the store every day from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. to take pictures with the kids. Admission is FREE. Visit during store hours, which are 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and until 8 p.m. on Sundays, and see the FREE ;animated Christmas story, "Something Special for Santa." Also, remember that Hicks is partnering with Long Island Cares so please bring non-perishable food to donate at the entrance to the nurseries.
