March is a great time to get together with your friends and family and attend great events throughout Long Island. Now that the weather is slowly getting warmer, you can take a walk in Long Island's natural landscapes, or attend concerts or plays. St. Patrick's Day will bring lots of festive events. Here's a sampling of things to do and places to visit. Also check out my separate listing on St. Patrick's Day events.

Long Island Winterfest: Jazz on the Vine continues every Saturday and Sunday afternoon through Sunday, March 23, 2014. Participating vineyards will feature live jazz music in their tasting rooms and other venues across the East End. Hotels, restaurants, cultural venues and attractions will feature special offers and events to brighten up your winter.

Rabble-Rousers: Art, Dissent, and Social Commentary at the Heckscher Museum of Art, 2 Prime Avenue, Huntington, NY, (631) 351-3250. Exhibition drawn from the museum's permanent collection, featuring artists who challenged traditional ethics, politic and social norms. Tilles Center presents Metropolitan opera star Renee Fleming aka "The People's Diva. (She was the first classical singer to sing the national anthem at the Super Bowl.) The evening's program includes works by Mozart, Handel, Rachmaninoff, Weill and Rodgers & Hammerstein.

Hofstra University’s Annual Shakespeare Festival began in 1950. Each year a different play is performed on the main stage. This year, the 65th Annual Hofstra Shakespeare Festival presents The Comedy of Errors.


Show times: Thursday, March 6 at 8 p.m., Fridays, March 7 and 14 at 8 p.m., Saturdays, March 8 and 15 at 8 p.m. and Sundays, March 9 and 16, 2014 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $12/general admission and $10 for senior citizens (over 65) or matriculated non-Hofstra students with ID. Two free tickets with current faculty/staff/student HofstraCard.
