With November's chilly air comes the beginning of the holiday spirit and outdoor activities for those who love winter. From outdoor birdwatching to upscale cocktail parties and musical events, there's plenty to do on Long Island this month.

FREE - First Friday at the Heckscher Museum of Art, 2 Prime Avenue, Huntington, NY, (631) 351-3250. The first Friday of every month, the Heckscher museum offers FREE admission after 4 p.m. There will also be a FREE musical performance at 7 p.m..

Saturday, November 5

Gala 2011 at Tilles Center for the Performing Arts at 8:30 p.m., featuring Long Island's own Idina Menzel, star of such smash hits like Rent and Wicked, and adored by millions on Glee. Would you know what to do if you saw a sea turtle on the beach? The Riverhead Foundation for Marine Research and Preservation is offering a FREE sea turtle cold stun lecture on November 5th at 4 p.m. Cold stunning is a condition similar to hypothermia, brought on when cold-blooded animals, in this case sea turtles, are exposed to cold temperatures of 50 degrees F or below. This condition can become fatal. Learn for free how you can get involved and help the Riverhead Foundation in saving cold stunned sea turtles. This program is for adults & families. Sundays - November 6, 13, 20, & 17

Family Sunday at the Museum. Each Sunday, the Nassau County Museum of Art offers a 1 p.m. docent-led family walk-through of the exhibition, and beginning at 1:30 p.m., supervised art activities for the whole family. Family Sunday at the Museum is free with museum admission. Nassau County Museum of Art is located at One Museum Drive (just off Northern Boulevard, Route 25A, two traffic lights west of Glen Cove Rd.) in Roslyn Harbor. Admission to the main building is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors (62+) and $4 for students and children ages 4-12. These prices include admission to the MiniArtMuseum for Children.

Sunday, November 6 through Sunday, November 13

The Sixth Annual Long Island Restaurant Week. This promotion offers diners three course, prix fixe meals for $24.95 (not including tax and gratuities) at over 200 restaurants including City Cellar Wine Bar & Grille, Porto Vivo, Besito , the Babylon Carriage House and many more. Tuesdays, November 7, 14, 21 and 28

Every Tuesday at 11 a.m., Book Revue, Long Island's largest independent bookstore, invites you and your young ones to a FREE Toddler Time where kids can do crafts and listen to stories. Thursday, November 10

Full Moon Night Hike. Come to the Quogue Wildlife Refuge, 3 Old Country Road, Quogue, NY at 5 p.m. for a nighttime hike through the forest up to North Pond as you look and listen for nocturnal creatures and enjoy some night vision activities. The walk will last approximately 1 ½ hours. Reservations required at (631) 653-4771. at least 24 hours in advance; payment required at time of reservation. A program for adults and families with children over 11. Free for members, $5 for non-members.

Saturday, November 12 and Sunday, November 13

Long Island Woodworkers 16th Annual Woodworking Show at the Old Bethpage Village Restoration fairgrounds, 1303 Round Swamp Road, Exit 48 on the LIE. (You'll have to pay the admission fee to enter.) Hand crafted furniture, wood carvings and more. Free seminars, tool garage sale, unique gifts. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. both days.

Sunday, November 20

At 2 p.m. - An Afternoon of Song -- Gina Colao Decker in a concert of arias, Neopolitan songs, and Standard American songs at the Mills Pond House Gallery, 660 Route 25A, St. James, NY. Saturday, November 26

Fourth Annual Miracle on Main Street - and Holiday Parade in Sayville, NY. Starting at 9 a.m., bring the kids to see floats, classics cars, bands and an early-in-the-season appearance by Santa Claus. Miracle on Main Street, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., features a gingerbread house competition, favorite classic movies playing in the streets, a tree lighting, live music and other performances, FREE carousel rides for kids all night and more.
