The Bottom Line

Besito restaurant in Huntington (there's a sister restaurant in Roslyn) features fresh, delicious Mexican food in an upscale atmosphere. Meals are freshly prepared and the service is top-notch. The atmosphere is more like a lively party than an impersonal restaurant. If you like spicy food, this is a great place to go. During warm weather, the front of the restaurant opens, and you can enjoy your meals at cozy tables on the sidewalk.

Guide Review - Besito Restaurant

If you're in the mood for tasty Mexican fare, Besito is a great choice. Do you like tequila as well? Then you're in the right place, with about 60 types of tequila, ranging from not aged to mildly aged to Extra Añejo, including Grand Patron Burdeos.

For starters, the freshly-made guacamole is a must. One of the restaurant's staff prepares the densely delicious avocado appetizer tableside, and serves it to you in a molcajete, a type of traditional stone bowl. And whatever you order, don't forget to ask for a side of platanos fritos--fresh, fried sweet plantains.

My husband and I shared the quesadillas calabaza appetizer. These hearty flour tortillas are filled with Chihuahua (no relation to the dog!) cheese, green chiles, squash blossoms, mushrooms and salsa verde cruda. We also enjoyed the house salad with baby field greens, mango, tomato, crunchy jicama and bitter orange vinaigrette.

My husband enjoyed the budin de marisco, a savory tortilla pie with shrimp and jumbo lump crab, and I tried the chile rellenos al hongos -- poblano peppers stuffed with wild mushrooms, spinach, goat cheese and pine nuts.

Save room for dessert. The flan was a little too sweet for my taste, but if you have a real sweet tooth, this is for you. We also tasted a rich chocolate dessert that was excellent. Before leaving, you're given complimentary churros, a long, thin dessert that tastes like light and fluffy donuts. You'll also receive a free, miniature "worry doll." Whisper your problems to the doll, place it under your pillow, and your cares will disappear. Or so they say.

FOOD POISONING, Member LeciaFalco

Besito looks like a nice place BUT BEWARE! I had the guacamole, red snapper appetizer and the chicken flauta appetizer and one, or all caused me to get horrific FOOD POISONING! The same thing had happened to my friend a few months ago I was in so much pain and will NEVER go back there again!
