Guide Review - The Jolly Fisherman & Steak House Restaurant Review
The Jolly Fisherman opened in 1957 and continues to serve excellent, fresh seafood and steaks to Long Islanders and visitors. The quiet atmosphere is perfect for a romantic date. Candlelit tables are covered in soft white tablecloths and guests are provided with cloth napkins. The decor is reminiscent of the 70's, but the gourmet menu is completely up-to-date. Reserve in advance, and ask for a table near the expansive windows to dine with a serving of spectacular waterside views. There are several ample rooms, so you'll never feel crowded in this restaurant.
Before dinner, attentive servers bring out a bread basket including the Jolly Fisherman's signature treat: delectable homemade nut bread. You can even buy a loaf to bring home. Trust me: your whole family will love this delicious, delicately sweet bread.
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at this excellent restaurant. We sat at a table overlooking the water, and definitely ate too many pre-dinner slices of that wonderful nut bread before the main course.
We each ordered a salad of mixed field greens. They came with tangy pieces of goat cheese, sun-dried cranberries and candied pecans, topped with a balsamic vinaigrette. The combination of these different flavors is amazing. My main course was the excellent macadamia nut-crusted salmon, broiled to perfection. My husband enjoyed a large plate of breaded fried oysters, which he described as crispy on the outside and succulent on the inside.
Since both of us had eaten entirely too much nut bread before dinner, we had to skip dessert. Looking at the satisfied faces of other guests who enjoyed the Jolly Fisherman's signature banana cream pie, I'd say we definitely missed out. The next time we eat there, we'll have to buy a loaf of nut bread to take home, and leave room for dessert.
