The Bottom Line

Don't be fooled by the name. Prime isn't just about steaks. There's a wide selection of seafood, sushi, luscious salads and more. The restaurant is decidedly upscale and perfect for those looking for scenic, expansive views of the harbor. It's a good choice for a romantic dinner in the main dining room. Or for a lighter meal, sit outside and order lighter fare, or enjoy the vibrant bar scene. In summer, sit indoors or outdoors. In winter, take a seat near the fireplace while viewing the harbor through full-length windows.

Guide Review - Prime Restaurant Review

In my opinion, Prime is one of the best restaurants on Long Island. The interiors are stunning and the food is the finest. The sprawling main dining room is decorated in muted tones with beamed ceilings and an exposed brick wall. The centerpiece of this waterside restaurant is its view of the harbor. Floor-to-ceiling windows show tranquil harbor scenes to accompany your meals. Wine lovers will appreciate the 5000-bottle wine cellar with almost 800 varieties.

Everything is homemade at this gourmet restaurant. For an appetizer, try the pan-seared gnocchi, topped with parmesan cheese and a savory truffle sauce. I thoroughly enjoyed it. The sommelier recommended a pairing with a glass of Donatiello Chardonnay, a full-bodied white wine with citrus notes. The crab cakes are also delicately spiced and bursting with flavor. They go well with Maria Schneider Jazz Riesling, a medium dry wine.

I enjoyed the salmon with delicious wild mushrooms, spring onions and peas in a white wine-herb sauce, which was fresh and well-prepared. It went well with the sommerlier's suggested Pinot Noir. My husband recommends the pan seared-red snapper, which came with tomato-ginger chutney and basmati rice. It paired well with a Sauvignon Blanc.

Desserts are decadent and delicious. From the plum banana panna cotta to the tempting chocolate mousse bombe, there are many sweet ways to end your meal.

The decor and scenary are really nice; however, the food was not too great. I had a sushi roll which wasn't that tasty and overpriced. My boyfried's steak was rubbery and lacked flavor. The food overall I feel is way overpriced for what you get. There are much better sushi places in the area.
