SerendipiTea has been in business since 1995, and its fine tea boutique has been located in Manhasset since November 2008. This unique store offers over 200 varieties of artisanal loose leaf teas and tisanes. (Tisanes are beverages similar to tea, but instead of being brewed with tea leaves, they're made with herbs, florals, bark and the like steeped in hot water.)
Much like wine, tea comes in a dazzling variety of types and blends. SerendipiTea prides itself on their unique blends, including combinations of tea leaves from India, china, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Japan and other tea-growing nations.
A Presidential Blend - Obama 44:
One unique house blend at SerendipiTea is their Obama 44, dedicated to the 44th president of the United States. To pay homage to Obama's father, it includes a Kenyan tea blend. To honor the president's mother, who lived many years in Hawaii, mango is included. And to represent Obama's All American aspects, there are the flavors of apple and cinnamon to show this tea ---and this president--- are as American as apple pie.
With a Nod to the Environment:
SerendipiTea not only offers unique tea blends, but also cares for the environment. A large portion of their offerings are organically grown. Much of the teas that they sell are fair trade, and their packaging is created from 100 percent post-consumer recycled and biodegradable materials. In addition, water-based inks are used on their packaging. All their teas are blended by hand, and not by machines.
Tea, Soaps & Candles:
You can also purchase tea pots here, as well as soaps made from tea. Made in Port Washington, the all-natural soaps come in varieties like Chamomile/Lavender, Green Tea & Honey, Earl Grey and more. There are tea soaps made with goat milk or shea butter as well.
In the same way that wine pairs with certain foods, teas pairs with special aromas. So SerendipiTea sells pairings of select teas with scented candles made on Long Island.
