Thrift shops have been around for a very long time, but in a shaky economy, these economical stores have a broader appeal. Most thrift shops offer clothing and shoes, but others feature household items and furniture as well. Here’s a sampling of some of the thrift shops on Long Island.

Junior League of Long Island Thrift Shop

Twin Pines Consumer Association Thrift Shop

St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Shop
1424 New York Avenue, Huntington Station, (631) 385-1226.A small shop with big bargains. There are clothing and shoes for men, women and children, as well as some decorative items for the house. Formal gowns are also available, and coats and jackets are sold in season.
Community Thrift Shop
274 New York Avenue, Huntington,(631) 271-4883.Staffed by volunteers from six local charities including Huntington Hospital and Planned Parenthood, this shop features household items, some designer clothing, and some items that still have their original price tags attached.
