The legendary Secretariat made history at Belmont Park Race Track on June 9, 1973, as the strapping, chestnut-colored thoroughbred raced to the finish line, winning the Triple Crown and setting a world record of 2 minutes 24 seconds for the 1.5 mile race. The record hasn't been broken to this day.

Secretariat was born on March 30,1970 at The Meadow in Doswell, Virginia, the offspring of Bold Ruler (who came in third in the 1957 Kentucky Derby) and Somethingroyal. He stood at 16.2 hands (66 inches or 5'5") and weighed 1200 pounds. In his lifetime, he sired over 600 foals, of which 57 were Stakes winners.

The famous horse set track records at both the Kentucky Derby and the Preakness Stakes, and won the title of American Horse of the Year in both 1972 and 1973.
