Guide Review - The Mill Pond House Restaurant Review
The Mill Pond House has been a restaurant since the 1920s, but has changed hands many times. The current owners have served Long Islanders since 2004. Perfect for a delicious lunch or a romantic dinner, this eatery's atmosphere is one of elegance. White tablecloths and black cloth napkins are at each table, and tall, tapered candles cast a soft glow. Ask for a table by one of the tall windows for a view of Mill Pond, where swans quietly swim. In warm weather, enjoy the large, outdoor patio.
If you're a seafood lover, you'll enjoy their raw bar, which includes a jumbo shrimp cocktail as well as Little Neck clams. Feeling in the mood for something expensive and decadent? Then order caviar, either American paddlefish caviar, or the more costly Iranian Osetra.
When my husband and I dined at the restaurant, we started out by sharing a salad of succulent Nantucket bay scallops with a delightful blend of baby frisee, caramelized walnuts, apples, and tangy blue cheese, all topped with a mustard vinaigrette. My main course was a well-prepared, broiled organic salmon filet with red onions and tomatoes, in a citrus beurre blanc sauce. My husband enjoyed the special of the day, the homemade, pan-roasted gnocchi, tastefully prepared with grilled shrimp and broccoli rabe.
