Keeping Things Local

Reader Stories: My Long Island Wedding

From ehanson53

Why we got married on Long Island

We were trying to keep things local to NYC so our families would be able to attend. Long Island wasn't necessarily our first choice because it was Long Island, but because of what we found there for venues.

How I chose my Long Island wedding venue

It all came down to price. We had dreamed of a wedding in a vineyard, but after that proved impractical - places were asking $5,000 just to use the space, with nothing else included - we started looking at other venues in a radius around NYC. Our last group of stops was on Long Island and our first venue turned out to have not only some really fantastic amenities, but the best price we'd heard yet.

Tips and Tricks

  • Go further afield: if we'd looked at places on the North Fork, we might have found a vineyard that would have met our price requirements.
  • Picked a venue with an ocean view. But really, that's just being picky.

Thanks so much for sharing your story. If anyone is interested at places on the North Fork, they can read Long Island Wine Country Weddings. They might also be interested in Fabulous Wedding Locations on Long Island to get some ideas.
