Why we got married on Long Island
We got married on Long Island/Montauk because it holds a special meaning to us. We both love Montauk and have made it a point to take an annual trip out there every year. On our August 2008 trip, my husband took me to a dinner at Gurney's and then we went for a walk on the beach. He got down on his knee in the sand and popped the question. It was the greatest night of our lives and we knew we had to get married on that same sand! Less than 9 months later, we said our vows on the beach in front of Gurney's - almost the same exact spot we got engaged.
How I chose my Long Island wedding venue
Besides the fact that Gurney's had a special meaning to us because we got engaged there, we also loved what they had to offer. They were one of the only few venues that offered a ceremony site in the sand on the ocean. Gurney's was the perfect venue for us to have a semi-destination wedding. Our guests could drive or make a weekend out of it and feel like they were away on a secluded island. Many of our guests opted to make a weekend of it and had a fantastic time. Our guests felt relaxed right from the beginning - how could you not when you were sipping cocktails on a deck overlooking one of the country's most beautiful beaches! We also loved that Gurney's offered a post wedding bonfire celebration on the beach. It was a great way to end the celebration spending time with all our guests.
Lastly, we loved the wedding planners at Gurney's. We clicked with them right away and still keep in touch with them. We had total confidence in them and they did an awesome job making sure our vision was brought to life!
